Surfaceshield FP protects murals from graffiti
Designed as a colourful tribute to the people of Corio, Carla McRae's mural welcomes shoppers to Geelong's Corio Village Shopping Centre. There are even some Geelong Cats footballers striding across the artwork, which wraps around two walls of the centre's exterior.
While meaningful wall art is a clever strategy to prevent graffiti, Dulux Surfaceshield FP takes the protection to the next level without impacting the art's appearance.
This water-based fluoropolymer product is designed to withstand cleaning with graffiti removal agents and is easy to apply. The coating appears opaque on application, enabling the applicator to ensure all sections are covered, before drying clear.
Programmed Property Services was engaged to paint the exterior of the shopping centre and protect the mural. Business Development Manager John Fullarton sought advice from DuluxGroup Trade Territory Manager, who in turn consulted with Dulux PC Trade Specialist James Davide.
"Programmed turn to Dulux when we need specialist advice and products from a trusted source," says John. "We worked very closely on this project right from the start, with Dulux providing our customer with a colour consultancy."
Programmed first painted the centre's exterior with hardwearing Dulux Weathershield Low Sheen, with Flooded Gum, the selected colour.
Two days after Carla finished her mural using acrylic paints, two coats of Dulux Surfaceshield FP were applied, first by brush and then by roller a day later.
With a low VOC content of less than 25g per litre, this low-odour product was ideal for application while the shopping precinct remained operational.
“We would recommend Surfaceshield FP because first of all it’s a water-based product and our customers love that, and secondly it’s easy to mix and apply,” John explains.
