Design Elements of the New Pakenham Station
The station has been designed to reflect the regional and metropolitan character of Pakenham. With the completion of an iconic roof inspired by the suburb's rolling hills and bronze sunsets, platforms supported by 16 steel columns and skylights allowing natural light onto the platforms, the station boasts a modern and aesthetically pleasing look. Passengers have access to two platforms for regional and metropolitan trains, upgraded modern facilities, two lifts, stairs, and a climate-controlled waiting room at street level.
Protective Coating System Used for Lift Shafts, Steelwork, Steel Circular Columns, and Skylights
Dulux® Protective Coatings Regional Sales Manager, Chris Eldred assisted in the development of the Pakenham Station by specifying the coating systems for various components of the build. The lift shafts and steelwork were coated with a three-coat system that meets the Australian Standard AS/NZS 2312.1:2014, providing protection against atmospheric corrosion. The steel circular columns have been coated with a four-coat system that offers superior surface wetting properties and corrosion resistance. The skylights also feature a comprehensive four-coat system to ensure optimal cathodic corrosion resistance and enhance their aesthetics and durability.
