Fascinated by science from a young age, Mahsa Soltanpour studied chemistry in her native Iran before migrating to Australia to explore new career and lifestyle opportunities. She enriches the Dulux Protective Coatings team with her diverse experience and global perspective.
Tell us about your role at Dulux Protective Coatings
I undertake a comprehensive process to certify products, ensuring they meet specific standards and requirements. The exact steps vary depending on the type of product to be certified, but generally, the process includes reviewing regulations and standards, conducting tests and evaluating the results, reviewing technical documents, assessing compliance, coordinating with certification bodies, and monitoring ongoing compliance.
I need to involve multiple stakeholders in the process, including certification bodies, regulatory authorities, industry experts, laboratories and manufacturers. We all work together to ensure product quality, safety and adherence to standards.
What skills and experience are required for your role?
I have a Bachelor of Applied Chemistry and a Certificate in Laboratory Techniques. I’ve also attained a number of Certificates in areas such as quality control and conformity.
I use critical thinking and call on my technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of international standards and test methods in order to fulfil my role.
What are your notable career achievements?
I have a wealth of academic and six years of industry experience, including authoring a research paper published in 2008. I was a quality control laboratory manager for a paint manufacturer in Iran.
Over the years, I’ve won several employee awards recognising my performance and contributions.
What brought you to Australia?
In 2010, I came to Australia and after considering the quality of life and a seeing a promising future, we decided to make this place our home. I’ll always carry love and respect for my home town in my heart. Migration is one of life’s toughest challenges, but it’s given us a chance to connect with the wider world and undergo personal growth.
