Dr. Yue Tang (PhD) is one of the talented senior chemists behind our high performing protective coatings range.
Working alongside her colleagues, Yue helps develop new coatings and works on performance improvements to existing products.
Yue is passionate about developing innovative coatings that provide long-lasting protection against Australia's harsh conditions.
What drew you to a career with Dulux Protective Coatings?
I was a researcher at Monash University, working on energy efficient window coatings. I really enjoyed the research; however academic projects are typically long term. I really wanted to work on products that I could see launched.
I was drawn to Dulux because of its reputation in the marketplace for having a positive work culture.
What do you specialise in?
I specialise in developing the paint formulations for our products. For example, I may need to come up with a paint formulation that delivers a new combination of corrosion protection, UV protection and graffiti resistance. I also ensure that any new coating applies well, adheres well, and doesn't peel or flake over time.
What makes Dulux Protective Coatings so innovative?
I would have to say it's because the business is driven by science.
I've worked and studied in universities for years. I've pursued a masters degree and a PhD. I've been a researcher and I've seen a lot of professors and researchers at work. However, I've never seen people more driven by science than my colleagues at Dulux Protective Coatings.
I may be biased, because I'm a chemist after all, but for me science is the key to both innovation and excellent product performance, particularly when you're talking about protective coatings.
Innovation within the business is also driven by our commitment to our customers and our focus on meeting their need for excellent asset protection.
What Dulux Protective Coatings products have you enjoyed working on?
I loved working on Ferreko No. 4. I was responsible for the commercialisation including scaling-up the production process to ensure that the results we were seeing in the lab would translate to real-world applications.
Now that Ferreko No. 4 is readily available, I continue to undertake long term testing to assess the performance of the product over time.
Can you describe some of the testing that you undertake?
A large part of my role involves ongoing testing and evaluation of our products. We use a specialised exposure laboratory where our products are subjected to a range of harsh environmental conditions, whether that's being immersed in water, or exposed to harsh UV light.
After prolonged exposure, we carefully strip back the sample to check what's going on. It's this level of scientific rigour and attention to detail that is behind Dulux Protective Coatings' quality.
