The Marsden Park warehouse project in New South Wales is a true testament to the power of innovative coatings in protecting and enhancing steel structures. With the collaboration of builder Novati Constructions, and applicator/fabricator Dunsteel Group, this warehouse project showcases a single pack alkyd primer finish used to ensure its durability and longevity.

The Chosen Coating System

When it came to selecting the right coating for the structural steel used in the Marsden Park warehouse, Dulux® Protective Coatings Technical Sales Representative, Michael Trikilis, knew exactly what was needed. He specified a high-performance coating that would not only provide corrosion protection but also deliver a decorative finish. The chosen coating for this project was Dulux® Congard®, a single-pack, air-drying, high-build coating based on a modified alkyd resin.

Corrosion protection and decorative finish in one product

Congard is renowned for its ability to provide both corrosion protection and a decorative finish in one product. It incorporates rust inhibitive zinc phosphate pigment, which allows for direct application to blast or chemically cleaned steel. This feature made it the perfect choice for the Marsden Park warehouse project, where the steel required a fast and economical primer finish.

Dunsteel Group took on the task of fabricating and spray applying 400 tonnes of steel with two coats of Congard in AS2700 N52 Mid Grey colour. Each coat was applied at a thickness of 75-microns (µm) DFT, ensuring a robust protective layer that shields the structural steel from corrosion and environmental elements.

Congard is a coating that goes beyond its application in the Marsden Park warehouse project. It is an exceptional choice and has proven its convenience and versatility, gaining popularity among Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in New South Wales where it has been used on the industrial radiator industry, providing a reliable and efficient solution.

Additionally, Congard is ideal for coating roof trusses and structural work in logistics warehouses with dry interiors and low corrosivity ensuring superior corrosion protection.

In South Australia, Congard is the go-to choice for Bluebird Rail Wagons. These wagons require a fast repaint to maintain their bright yellow appearance. With a quick single coat application, Congard delivers the desired result efficiently.
