Luxafloor delivers hard-working finish at Darwin Middle School
There was a bustle of energy and excitement when the students at Darwin Middle School rushed in to explore their new Multi-Purpose Hall. Unveiled in June 2019, this sleek and modern facility was designed to be supremely flexible. Classes, assemblies, sports, drama, dance, music and study all happen within 1200 square metres of floor space.
The $15.9 million project was part of a Northern Territory Department of Education initiative to boost the infrastructure of the Bullocky Point Education Precinct.
The new hall's designers were aiming for a contemporary industrial look. While polished concrete flooring would fit the bill, this space needed a finish that was even more durable and stain resistant. Joel Boucher, Dulux Protective Coatings' technical sales rep in the NT, recommended Dulux Luxafloor CP Concrete Sealer to achieve a hard wearing clear coating that could help withstand the knocks, bumps and spills of school life.
Suitable for both industrial and commercial flooring, Luxafloor CP is a high performance, clear moisture curing polyurethane with excellent adhesion to diamond-ground concrete. It enhances the aggregate particles in the floor, allowing visible variation to give floors more character, while also protecting against spills and stains.
The team at Darwin Carpets & Vinyl applied two coats of Luxafloor CP over concrete prepared with a full grind to CSP 2 standard. A top coat of Luxafloor CP Low Sheen gave the expansive new floors a stunning finish.
Will the new floors last the distance? With retractable seating, sliding walls, and lots of furniture and equipment on the move, this hardworking space will put Luxafloor CP to the the test. We’re confident the finish will be gleaming for many years to come.
