British sculptor Gerry Judah used 46 tonnes of square-sectioned steel tubes to create the dramatic curves of Jacob’s Ladder. Dulux® Protective Coatings was tasked with specifying a system to create a lustrous, protective coating. They began with Dulux® Zincanode® 402 for a zinc-rich prime coat, Dulux® Duremax® GPE epoxy the intermediate coat and finished with Dulux® Weathermax® HBR two pack polyurethane.
The team at Auckland Abrasive Blasting & Coating Ltd painted the steel tubes before they were taken onsite to be assembled and stacked to 34 metres high. Gibbs Farm is subjected to harsh westerly weather, with strong winds bringing sea spray across the horizon. The winning Dulux Protective Coatings system provides protection from weathering and corrosion to maintain the sculpture’s immaculate finish. Click here for more specification information.
Dulux Protective Coatings were proud to be a key contributor to this project, ensuring this important artwork will be enjoyed by many future generations.
