The completion of The Star Gold Coast's second hotel and apartments tower marks a major milestone as the project is now finished and open for business.

The Star Gold Coast’s newest 65-storey tower stands as a landmark achievement in modern construction. At the heart of this success is Usher Group, whose expertise in fabrication and coating application ensured the structure meets the highest standards of durability and fire protection. By implementing a tailored Dulux® Protective Coatings four-coat system, Usher Group delivered exceptional performance and safety for one of Queensland’s newest developments.

Usher Group's Expertise in Fabrication and Coating Application

Usher Group played a key role in the tower’s construction by applying a high-performance four-coat solution to the structural steel V components. Working closely with Dulux® Protective Coatings, James Booth identified a fire protection strategy that combines corrosion resistance, fire safety, and long-term durability. The system includes:

•    1st coat: Dulux® Zincanode® 402 @ 75 microns (µm) DFT, a two-pack epoxy zinc-rich primer providing strong cathodic corrosion resistance. Recommended for abrasive blast-cleaned steel, it allows easy overcoating without special seal coats and ensures long-term durability in harsh conditions.

•    2nd coat: Dulux® FIRETEX® FX6010 is an intumescent coating providing up to 120 minutes of fire protection. Fast-drying and suitable for interior or exterior structural steel, it can be applied directly to blast-cleaned or primed steel for reliable fire safety.

•    3rd & Topcoat: Dulux® Weathermax® HBR @ 75-microns (µm) DFT each is a high-build polyurethane coating offering UV stability, graffiti resistance, and long-term asset protection. It maintains gloss and colour even in harsh marine environments and extreme UV exposure.

“This four-coat system was the ideal choice for The Star Gold Coast’s iconic V components because each layer delivers a critical function—corrosion resistance, fire protection, and long-term durability. Together, it guarantees structural integrity in one of Australia’s most demanding coastal environments,” explains James.
