Excavator gets high quality finish with Quantum 221
An excavation business can't do without its excavator. That's why ease of application was a big consideration for Hervey Bay Excavations, who approached Dulux Protective Coatings for a system that would protect their asset but also return it to service quickly.
From digging dams to clearing land, the Sumitomo SH 210 Excavator is used every day in Queensland's tropical coastal conditions. UV exposure, rain and humidity can all impact an asset's durability in this climate.
Mark Christensen from Hervey Bay Excavations needed protection that would meet his budget by allowing him to apply the coatings himself, in an open shed exposed to wind and dust.
Working with clients throughout central Queensland, Dulux PC Technical Specialist Rodney Mann is well accustomed to creating tailored coatings systems.
"Quantum 221 is an excellent polyurethane product that delivers superior colour and gloss retention. As well as visual impact, it helps to protect assets from UV and maintain asset value," Rodney explains.
Dry to touch within 40 minutes, the product's fast-drying qualities were also important.
"This helped Mark with the application, particularly as he was working in fairly open conditions. He reported back that it was easy to use with the airless spray gun," Rodney says.
The excavator was prepared with a high pressure wash and abrasive blast-clean.
Providing excellent barrier protection for steel, Durabild STE was sprayed on with a dry film thickness (DFT) of 125 microns. The two coats of Quantum 221 were sprayed at 50 microns DFT.
