FORGE (formerly Fleetwood Urban) were contracted to supply 50 custom steel seat installations for this project. Specifying the right protective coatings system was crucial to the project’s success. The list of must haves was substantial:
• High performance corrosion resistance and an attractive, durable finish that could withstand all the knocks, scrapes, dents and marks that come with heavy public usage
• Resistance to graffiti attack and repeated cleaning
• UV protection for the outdoor structures to resist fading and weathering
• A solution significantly extending the time between maintenance cycles to reduce costs
• A solution meeting strict performance, budget and schedule requirements
Lending his expertise to the project, Dulux® Protective Coatings, Adam Hockey specified a proven coatings system that combines two of our high-performance coatings:
• First coat: Dulux® Zincanode® 402 at 75-microns (µms)
• Topcoat: Dulux® Quantum® V92 in Satin Finish at 100-microns (µms)
First coat - Priming for long term rust resistance
Applicators Dynacoat spray applied a prime coat of Zincanode 402. This two pack epoxy has a zinc rich formula for cathodic corrosion resistance. It also offers superior application properties, rapid dry times and can be overcoated in a range of coating types, including other epoxies or polyurethanes.
Topcoat - Achieving a modern satin finish
A premium quality finish was achieved with a topcoat of Quantum® V92 in Satin Finish. Formulated specifically for Australian and New Zealand environments, this two pack fluoropolymer has superior gloss retention and resists weathering, chemicals, abrasion and graffiti attack.
Poised for future projects
Everyone involved in the project was impressed with the sleek finish achieved, with the modern hues giving the structures a sharp, polished look.
