Campbelltown Hospital's Stage 2 redevelopment, valued at $632 million, is dedicated to delivering exceptional healthcare services that cater to the evolving demands of the growing Macarthur community by bringing advanced medical care closer to home.
At the heart of this transformation stands a remarkable 12-storey clinical services building. This state-of-the-art facility not only houses an upgraded Intensive Care Unit but also features expanded women's and children's services, along with conveniently located mental health services.
Our team worked in partnership with Health Infrastructure NSW, South Western Sydney Local Health District, Billard Leece Partnership (BLP) and Apollo Fabrication on completion of the 12-storey facility.
Outstanding corrosion resistance from a three-coat system
The hospital is protected with a trio of reliable products, applied via spray in a three-coat system:
• Primer: Dulux® Zincanode® 402 @ 75-microns (µms)
• Second coat: Dulux® Ferreko® No. 3 @ 100-microns (µms)
• Topcoat: Dulux® Ferreko® No. 3 @ 100-microns (µms)
Technical Sales Representative, Jack Jaber states, the primer coat offers not only exceptional corrosion resistance, but also boasts a user-friendly application process.
“Zincanode is a two pack epoxy zinc rich primer that is one of our leading products and the ideal foundation for many coating systems. Applicators frequently rave about the effortless application and impeccable finish achieved through spray application. The ease of use and flawless results make it a preferred choice among many.”
With a solid foundation in place, it was time for colour and finish. Aesthetic appeal and outstanding durability made one of our MIO products an obvious choice.
“Ferreko No. 3 MIO is a versatile product that serves multiple purposes: it can function as both an intermediate build coat and a topcoat. With its elevated concentration of micaceous iron oxide, this product offers exceptional barrier protection while imparting a delicate metallic shimmer,” explains Jack.
Aesthetic appeal a major plus for the architect
The architects, BLP made a specific request for Ferreko® on this project inspired by a similar product used on the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and wanted to achieve the same finish. Our team provided a sample of the product to ensure its colour and finish met design expectations.
The formulation of the Micaceous Iron Oxide (MIO) pigment has the remarkable ability to reflect UV light. This results in a captivating ‘sparkle’ effect when the product is bathed in sunlight. Changing light throughout the day gives a sense of movement to the Campbelltown Hospital building and a feeling that the structure is alive, rather than static.
Successful planning keeps projects on track
Similar to numerous large-scale projects, the redevelopment of Campbelltown Hospital was carried out in stages spanning from 2020 to 2022. Meticulously mapping the project scope was paramount for our team, enabling effective communication, seamless planning with all stakeholders and ensured the project's smooth execution and success.
“In my role, it’s often about supporting the customer to complete their project on time. That means finding out the scope of work, the schedule and planning for when our coatings need to be available,” says Jack.
“We might need 5,000L of product but it’s not all in one go. We focus on understanding their scope and planning out the best distribution to complete everything on time.”
An additional benefit of partnering with Dulux® Protective Coatings is our nationwide distribution centres and stores. With applicators Apollo Fabrication based in the regional town of Young, Dulux Protective Coatings helped facilitate easy access to high-performance coatings for their projects.
“The strength of our distribution network, having stores all around NSW and nationally, certainly is an advantage,” says Jack.
