Aviation museum floor shines with Luxafloor LGE and PTX

Restored to glossy perfection, the military aircraft on show at the Hunter Warbirds museum sit proudly under lights in a vast hangar. Located within the Scone Memorial Airport, the new attraction was set to open on 26 March 2022, as part of the annual Warbirds Over Scone event. But as the big weekend approached, the hangar floor was looking less than glamorous. An urgent makeover was required to create a smooth and glossy stage for these aviation superstars.

With 3,500 square metres of concrete floor to cover, the Dulux® Protective Coatings' Queensland Sales team recommended a Luxafloor system for its excellent finish and easy application. Dulux® Luxafloor® LGE created a high-solids epoxy base, followed by Dulux® Luxafloor® PTX for superior gloss and colour retention under harsh lighting. The client chose the colour Pelaco from the Luxafloor Colour Chart, although both coatings can be matched to most colours in the Dulux World of Colour range.

Interstate collaboration

Working for the local Council, Newcastle's Kingston Building appointed Brisbane-based Apex Epoxy Flooring to the job, with its team's proven experience in aviation flooring.

Given the pressing deadline and the vast flooring area, product availability was also a critical factor.

"The opening was a month away, so we called around until we found sufficient stock levels at the Kippa Ring Inspirations store to cover 3,500 square metres," says QLD Technical Sales Executive Anil Sharma.

Despite a week-long delay due to COVID-19 isolation rules, the job was completed on time and on budget. The Hunter Warbirds were moved into the hangar, ready for the 7,000 visitors that attended the opening weekend.
