The Transformation of Mount Waverley Secondary College

Mount Waverley Secondary College is currently undergoing an important upgrade to modernise its facilities and provide students with a better learning environment.

The Victorian School Building Authority oversees the project's delivery on behalf of the Victorian Government, which includes the construction of a new Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) centre. This upgrade will ensure that students have access to modern, fit-for-purpose facilities, providing them with the best possible learning experience.

Safety and Durability with High-Quality Coatings

To ensure the safety of the students and staff, a combination of coatings will be used to achieve a fire rating for the exposed and internal mild steelwork. The coatings include:

•    1st coat: Dulux® Durepon® EZP @ 75-microns (µm)

•    2nd coat: Promat Cafco® SPRAYFILM WB3

•    Topcoat: Dulux® Luxathane® HPX @ 75-microns (µm)

The coating system for the external steel consists of:

•    1st coat: Dulux® Durepon® EZP @ 75-microns (µm)

•    2nd coat: Dulux® FIRETEX® Platinum-120 @ 600-microns (µm)

•    Topcoat: Dulux® Luxathane® HPX @ 50-microns (µm)

The surfaces will undergo abrasive blast cleaning to ensure proper adhesion.

"Combining the right products is essential to achieving the necessary fire rating for exposed and internal mild steelwork, ensuring the safety of building occupants," says Steve Kraljevic, Dulux Protective Coatings Victorian State Sales Manager. "At Dulux, we work closely with our clients to select the appropriate coatings and ensure proper application to achieve the desired results."

The use of these coatings ensures that the new buildings will be safe and long-lasting. The abrasive blast cleaning process removes any contaminants or surface irregularities that could compromise the coating's ability to adhere to the substrate. This step is crucial to ensure the longevity of the coatings and the safety of the building's occupants.

Investment in the Future

The upgrade to Mount Waverley Secondary College will provide a much-improved learning environment for students and a better facility for the community to use. The use of high-quality coatings ensures that the new buildings will be safe, long-lasting, and able to withstand the rigors of daily use.
