There, she focused on developing automotive primers, gaining valuable experience in formulation and product development. After graduating with honours in Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science from Monash University, Phuong joined Dulux Protective Coatings as a Development Chemist in 2018.

Creating MTO Colours

As part of her role, Phuong excels in creating made-to-order (MTO) colours for different product ranges. Her expertise in colour matching and formulation allows her to develop unique and customised coatings according to customer requirements.

The Future in Protective Coatings

According to Phuong, the top trend in protective coatings is the industry's increased focus on sustainability. In the past, long-term performance was the sole consideration, often resulting in the use of hazardous materials.

"For years, the protective coatings industry has been synonymous with hazardous and dangerous materials," says Phuong. "But with the swift regulatory changes we've witnessed, our industry is now compelled to prioritise the sustainability of the raw materials employed in our products. Although it presents a challenge, my hope is to witness a future where we can proudly endorse sustainable products that excel in long-term performance while being crafted from non-hazardous and non-dangerous materials."

Passion for Sustainability

Phuong is driven by a strong passion for promoting sustainability within the protective coatings industry. She takes great pride in her efforts to reduce health hazards and minimise environmental impacts through her work.
