Luxafloor fit for the task on Sydney's iconic coastal walk
On Sydney's iconic Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk, three new fitness stations are both fun and functional, coated in bright primary colours with Dulux Luxafloor PTX.
The fitness stations were installed in late 2019, replacing old equipment at Tamarama, Marks Park and Gaerlock Reserve.
Waverley's Senior landscape architect Andrew Chau specified Luxafloor for the off-form concrete elements at each station, valuing its "durability and ease of future maintenance" in this high-use and harsh coastal environment.
"The colours were chosen to stand out as elements deliberately placed in the environment, and not be ashamed of being iconic and memorable," Andrew explains.
At Tamarama, Harbour Blue complements the famous Surf Life Saving Club nearby, which was painted by Dulux as part of its Surf Club Project. Vivid Yellow at Gaerlock Reserve creates a "hyper colour reference to the sandstone cliffs" and contrasts against the native shrubs. At Marks Park, Signal Red signifies the stopping point at the base of the stairs. Cloud Grey was used as the secondary colour at all stations, tying all three together as a series.
Roger Worsop from Retroline applied three coats of Luxafloor, using 'cutter' brushes to outline the letters before filling them in with microfibre rollers.
"The project ran smoothly due to the ease of mixing and applying the Luxafloor product. All the painting was completed onsite after the lettering was drawn directly or transferred with paper patterns to the concrete surface," Roger explains.
"As the project continued over a number of days, I found working with the Luxafloor product wasn't dramatically different in its workability during hotter or cooler temperatures. I would recommend the product to other trades without hesitation."
